SAVE THE NHS
Constituents consistently highlight the state of the NHS as a top concern. The NHS requires both additional investment and comprehensive reform.
Support for National Reforms:
- I back Health Secretary Wes Streeting’s goals to modernize the NHS by:
- Transitioning from analogue to digital systems.
- Shifting focus from sickness to prevention.
- Moving care delivery from hospitals to communities.
- I welcome the Budget’s £22.6 billion increase in the day-to-day health budget and a £3.1 billion boost in capital funding for infrastructure and technology.
Engagement with Local NHS Leaders:
- I hold ongoing discussions with the CEO of the local NHS Board, Paul Bentley (Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board Chair), the CEO of East Kent Hospitals Trust, Tracy Fletcher, as well as local GPs and dentists and patient representatives, to address local healthcare challenges and make sure that national reforms address our local needs.
Addressing NHS Dentistry Crisis:
- I acknowledge the severe shortage of NHS dentists in Folkestone and Hythe.
- I support the Government’s rescue plan for 700,000 urgent dental appointments and recruitment initiatives.
- Labour’s proposed dental contract reforms to retain NHS dentists need to happen urgently.
- I have engaged with local dental practices and the ICB to expand NHS dental services in the constituency.
Improving Access in Remote Areas:
- I recognise healthcare access challenges in remoter areas like Romney Marsh.
- I support Labour’s vision of a Neighbourhood Health Service to deliver early diagnosis and care within communities.
Community Engagement on Healthcare:
- I hosted Health Minister Baroness Merron at Leas Cliff Hall for discussions on the Government’s ten-year health plan.
- I have also hosted a Town Hall Meeting in Hythe to gather constituents’ views on NHS reorganistaion, ensuring collaborative efforts toward improved healthcare services.
